Spells in Our Hair Tarot Workshop - The Story of the Hierophant & the Mystic
In the traditional Major Arcana Tarot card of the Hierophant we often see a male figure up on a pedestal and represented as a type of priest or pope. The reaction to this card can be instant dislike or a kind of unconscious recoil. For a long time our spiritual beliefs have been conditioned and controlled by patriarchal authorities but the true nature of The Hierophant is to be a ‘bridge’. They are meant to be teachers & mediums, people who can channel esoteric and complex wisdom and share this with others in language that is simple, inclusive and easy for everyone to understand. That’s when the Hierophant is in balance.
Recently I held a reading for a woman who drew this card and had a hard time accepting it’s power as her own. After journeying to understand more she opened her eyes and told me she is already the Hierophant where she works. She speaks 3 languages and English is her third. When there are difficulties in communicating important information to families whose loved ones are in palliative care, she is often called on to be the communicator and interpreter between the doctors and the families often in very emotional and trying circumstances. She could now see that she was doing much more than her job title and felt needed and comfortable with this type of power. The Hierophant holds the keys to so many doors.
If you’re like me, you are curious the stories that make us. I believe the Tarot is not a ‘fortune teller’ but a mythic philosophy that can help us decipher the stories of our lives by giving us a language of symbol and image. The Tarot can give us the symbolic vocabulary needed to make sense of daily events and experiences that are leading us to a greater wisdom.
