Scottish Woad Altar Doll
The Scottish Woad Altar Doll is a plant spirit doll that I began creating over a year ago and was finally completed just after Beltane. She is filled with Woad seeds and Nettle. She is the tallest and largest doll I have ever made. Her face has markings woven from wool dyed with Woad and she has one of a kind hand blown glass eyes created by a glass maker in Hungary who is no longer doing this work. Over heart woven in wool dyed with woad is a sigil of Scottish ‘cup and ring’ carvings found on ancient stones. Her shawl is made from wool wet felted and hand dyed naturally with Indigo and her hair is woven from a luxurious fibre derived from a biodegradable fibre infused with precious pearl powder. On her crown is a clear quartz crystal as a talisman to link her to the ancient and magical quartz charm stones. The Scottish Woad doll taught me about timing and that healing is not linear but circular - she was ready in her own time.
