The Knowing - Peter Muraay Djeripi Mulcahy

Indigenous painting The knowing by Murray Djeripi

The Knowing

With sensitivity comes greater understanding, from greater understanding comes finer clarity. Only with a timeless patience, a connective sensitivity and a deeper willingness to understand and see the relevance of all creation come the knowing.
This painting shows a people who were connected to their mother while in the embrace of their father.

Historical painting Elders are our embers by Muraay Djeripi

Elders are our embers

This beautiful symbolic painting is deep in its explanations of the complex culture that spawned it. Loving, nurturing, respectful and whole are all words that best describe this piece and the culture it portrays.

Each part of a whole

A fine detailed painting with incredible relevance for today. This work is another in Peters own indigenous knotting series. This artwork tells of the story of the core beliefs in “Indigenous Australia”. Why respect was at the heart of every thought and decision
What Baayama has entrusted to you I have no right to disrupt, disturb or disrespect.
Historical painting Mainly spirit by Muraay Djeripi

Mainly Spirit

We must continue to remind ourselves that we are spirit first, that we are a part of the all. Our old people knew it and lived it.
They really understood life as a continuation, there’s no gaps in time and there’s no gaps in creation. There’s just the one. In both space and time, we share the same moment and place with all before us.
We do well to know they are with us, so we remember our respect for them, the land and each other.
The physical world is simply a shadow covering our spirit.....
We are strong when we know this.

Ancestors

This vision is two spirit ancestors watching over me. They circle me, keeping me true to what I know and what is expected of me. They came as eagles to represent strength and invoke a feeling of awe. Their effortless flight teaches us of life and how when we allow ourselves to be one with spirit, the flow of life is continual and without effort.
My ancestors allow me to know that I am on tract and not alone. Someone to look up to and live up to. We are never alone and that is our strength.

Birth of the Butterflies

A truly beautiful story depicting the true philosophical nature of our Indigenous people. In the time when death did not exist, creation was suddenly forced to consider it for the first time. After turning to their leaders, clever ones and most wise. The answers to the mystery of life, death and reincarnation were carried on the wings of the lowly insects, Birth of the Butterflies.

'Stars Shower Her', encaustic art Julia Inglis 2011

I truly believe we are all artists and naturally intuitive beings. I hope that this is the year that you open the door to full flow of creativity, intuition and a heart full of love for our plant and animal friends. Mother Nature needs our love and attention  and this is the year to bring about massive change in the way that we view our animal companions and the earth we live on, in, from.  I know these changing times are not a smooth ride but the more we can be present and open and passionate in our choices, the more we will have access to freedom, authentic relationships and a deep understanding of our own natural rhythms and the rhythms of our nature.

I welcome you all to join us this year in consultations and classes exploring creativity and spirit such as: Encaustic Art, Writing & Photography, Mythology & Symbology, Creating Our Own Oracle Decks, and new work combining Tarot & Astrology: Welcoming Home the Outcasts - Chiron the Wounded Healer and Black Moon Lilith. Some of these classes have already been listed and you can read more here.

So let's begin this incredible quest that is 2012 together. Are you ready...let's go! xxx

The Path Within 3-Day Tarot & Healing Course

For those of you who might find it difficult to travel to Williamstown for the night classes of The Path Within or can not commit to a 3 month course period, we have created The Path Within 3-Day Weekend Intensive to be held over the weekend of 14th-15th May and the following Saturday 21st May 2011. In these 3 days you will learn to read the ancient symbols of the Tarot as a healing tool for yourself and others, learn techniques to deepen your Intuition and communicate with the Higher Self and Reconnect to Nature.

The Path Within is a Healing Course, creating Sacred Harmony and Connection to Nature through the ancient symbols of the Tarot. I am most passionate about teaching others to 'be your own healer' and by imparting the Tarot Mysteries I hope that you discover the 'Oracle Within' yourself.  As a pathworker, I merely stand at the doorway to the Temple of Yourself - the magical world of Tarot embraces symbology, mythology, astrology, numerology and beauty in all it's guises.

This course is perfect for absolute beginners to Tarot and is also open to anyone who would like to build on their current Tarot skills in a warm and creative group. It is important to note that this course will not be used in replacement of professional counselling or therapy where needed. When we take The Path Within we are embracing responsibility for the creation of manifesting the lives we truly desire in a warm and well-grounded environment of like-minded souls.

The Mythic Tribes and Wondrous Hands of Illustrator: Nadia Turner

Druantia and Ava

When I first saw the beautiful drawing of ‘Druantia and Ava,’ I was stopped in my tracks. I had heard about the druid goddess Druantia but had never seen her ‘made flesh’. I love it when an artist can make a story real for you & how wonderful to discover that the talented illustrator, Nadia Turner, lives right here in Melbourne.

Nadia:
'I have been drawing and creating for pretty much as long as I can remember, always very happy to just sit with pencil and paper in my hand. When asked when I was a child what I wanted to do when I grew up it was always ‘I want to be an artist!”  So I’m very grateful that’s how it’s turned out.

I don’t think I really realized until I started studying illustration that I’ve always been an ‘illustrator’ in that it was always the story and narrative that I was interested in. Of course it’s the characters themselves that make these stories enticing. As a kid I was always to be found drawing pictures of characters from fairytales – Cinderella, the little mermaid, sleeping beauty (most definitely influenced by Disney like so many other little girls!) And I still adore fairytales and stories for children – much more likely to find me in the kid’s realm of the bookstore than the adult section!  I was, and still am, fascinated by the exotic and otherworldly and I love costume and how what someone wears can tell a story in itself.

Mythology and magic have been a constant source of inspiration but most especially I’m intrigued by this idea of urban fantasy-that magic is only a step away, just a footstep through the veil and into the spirit world - a couple of my favourite authors like Charles de Lint and Neil Gaiman explore this idea a lot in their books – this notion that the gods and creatures from mythology could be walking around with us, even perhaps in everyday, human form.  And those creatures of fantasy don’t just exist in fantastical otherworlds but also in our own, just out of sight, glimpsed in the corner of our eye or just around that corner....
Wind and Sea

"He was conscious of any number of bodachs and spirits, shadowmen and border folk, faerie and ghosts, all going about their business. They were under the trees behind him and up in the boughs of those same oaks. They wandered along the streets, keeping to the shadows. They slept in gardens, poked through dumpsters. They scurried about in the sewers and alleyways, crept along rooftops or along windowsills, peering into people's apartments".

- Charles de Lint, excerpt from "Spirits in the Wires"

After all these myths and legends must come from some central truth far back in history, surely?!

I love that sense of mystery – when you see a fascinating looking person walk by in the street or find an amazing old forgotten sepia photograph – I love to wonder about who these people really are, what their story is – maybe old trickster coyote is running around in human form or that woman wandering through the spring markets is really Kore ....come back from the underworld for a while to remember what it’s like to be among humans again....

So that’s an idea I like to explore in my art. Often I don’t start a painting or a sketch with an idea of what or who it is I’m about to draw, the title or meaning often comes to me afterward.  While it might be loosely based on a myth or a character from a story, I don’t want this to be set in stone. The story is up to the viewer to imagine.  Often all I know is a name and not necessarily a story to go with the face.... After all, personally I believe that good art should strike a chord with the viewer and you shouldn’t have to know the full story of what and how and when it was created in order to understand it or ‘get’ something out of it.

I just hope my art entices people to use their imaginations and helps them to remember that the world can be a magical place!
